Established in 1931 originally as the Harvey Cushing Society, the AANS seeks to advance the study of neurological surgery. It spreads its message through communication via the media, government, and public. Since it began more than 80 years ago, the organization has grown to include more than 9,000 members.
Each year, the AANS hosts a scientific meeting where members gather and share ideas. The 85th annual scientific meeting is scheduled to occur on April 22-26, 2017, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. With a theme of Neurosurgery: A World of Innovation, this meeting covers the technological and educational advances affecting neurosurgeons. Attendees have an opportunity to listen to American anthropologist and physician Dr. Paul Farmer, who will speak about his life’s work helping those in rural areas. Those in attendance also can partake in symposiums, clinics, and development courses to help them gain more experience.
